Flames (Friends, Lovers, Anger, Marriage, Engagement, and Soulmates) was a Philippines daily teen drama anthology broadcast by IBC and worldwide on Global IBC. The show was aired from October 6, 2014 to May 29, 2015.
It featured the hottest teen stars in various feel-good love stories which, made before-school this morning, recognized this mini phenomenon among the males and females, kids, teenagers, family and decided to capitalize on it.

Flames is the daily week-long teen drama anthology on daytime, which is the story based on the best-selling novel of the same name published on Pop Fiction and Sizzle Books and books of Summit Media.
It proves that featuring the homegrown talents and hottest teen stars of IBC, a series of week-long daytime stories that started airing on the station. The series allows them room to hone their skills for the young stars to play varied roles culled from a library of modern pocketbooks written by Filipino authors. It brings to life the characters in the widely read love stories shared by up and coming authors whose novels have gained a huge following of readers and fans with different love teams and stories.
True love, fall in love, romance, all over again, the series per week, totaling to the tales of love, love triangle, boys and girls while set against breathtaking landscapes and shot within charming in the Philippines.
The show cinematically captures the momentous events in the characters’ lives, making finding true love at the right place and at the right time so thrilling.
You get the name of two people. Cross out the similar letters in their names, and total the number of the remaining letters. You then count the numbers against the acronym and then you get a future prediction of your ‘relationship’ with the person (whose name you wrote down beside yours). Philippine TV recognized this mini phenomenon among the teens and decided to capitalize on it.

Her cooking career comes to a screeching halt before it can even take off. Then, best friends Rob and Mateo enter the picture. Can she figure out her feelings for them, AND get the internship credits she needs to make it to senior year? As great as the great parts were, perhaps the one thing I wish was present in this book was the character development. I’m not saying the characters weren’t developed well, but I think the story could have been even more awesome had there been enough fleshed-out scenes between Tania, Rob, and Mateo. To be fair, Tania and Mateo did have good exposure in the story, but Tania’s history with Rob left me hanging. I couldn’t quite grasp her affection for him as much as I enjoyed reading about Tania and Mateo’s interaction. Rob could have been a great character and I wished he had more page time in the book to balance the situation and maybe establish the conflict on deeper ground. Another thing I wanted to point out were the recipes—they had me craving for cookies and crepes! But seriously, their placement in the book’s layout got me disoriented. It would have been great if they were placed at the end of the story where it wouldn’t cut through the narrative flow. But I guess that’s just a personal preference. All in all, One Crazy Summer gave me the nostalgia feels and it was amazing. The ending wrapped up nicely and that grand gesture was a +1 for the kilig factor. The story was also spot-on in depicting Filipino families and local culture that is timeless and endearing. If you’re into YA light reads in romance, or if you want to immerse yourself in Filipino culture and values, this is definitely your thing to read. Now excuse me while I go stuff myself with cookies and crepe and chicken inasal. |
